Additive Manufacturing Research Symposium

2022 Research Symposium

THIS EVENT IS POSTPONED

At CAMAL, we’re doing everything we can to protect our faculty, staff, students, and members as we respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, we are postponing our 2022 Research Symposium and look forward to seeing you once this situation stabilizes.

Save the Date for March 16-18, 2022 to attend the Center of Additive Manufacturing and Logistics (CAMAL) 2022 Research Symposium held on NC State University’s beautiful Centennial Campus in the NEW Fitts-Woolard Hall.

Held biennially in the spring, this event is a critical step in promoting the innovative research in additive manufacturing that is being done at NC State. It is also a chance for industries to voice their needs. The symposium gives CAMAL researchers the opportunity to have detailed conversations about the kind of research that industry feels is important and what role CAMAL can play in solving these important problems.

Along with a who’s who of industry and academic speakers, we have world-renowned experts as keynote speakers for the symposium. In previous years, we’ve had:

  • Dr. Dave Bourell, the University of Texas at Austin, who is the Temple Foundation Professor and Director of the Laboratory for Freeform Fabrication. Dr. Bourell address was a detailed overview of additive manufacturing.
  • Dr. Rickard Branemark, Co-director of the International Center for Osseointegration Research, who was the lead surgeon on the first team to implant muscle and nerve electrodes in an amputee with an osseointegrated implant in 2013. Dr. Branemark spoke about his experience using osseointegration and natural control strategies for amputation prostheses.
  • Dr. Kirk Rogers, who is the Technology Leader at the GE Additive Customer Experience Center (CeC) in Pittsburgh. He addressed additive’s bright future in the manufacturing industry.

During the symposium, participants are treated to student demonstrations of the lab’s capabilities and information about their research projects. On the first night of our AM Symposiums, CAMAL treats our guests to a tour of our world-class additive manufacturing laboratory, including a demonstration of our 3D laser printer donated by GE.

Over 100 people attend the symposium every year and attendees included academics, along with representatives of companies that make additive manufacturing equipment and manufacturers that are using 3-D and additive processes.
